Pediatric Psychiatry

A psychiatrist is a specialty physician trained to diagnose, treat, and manage developmental, mental, emotional, addictive and behavioral disorders. Psychiatrists provide mental health evaluations, as well as treatment that may include medication and psychotherapy. Additionally, psychiatrists can help rule out or treat underlying general medical conditions that might be causing or effecting mental illness with judicious use of blood work, imaging studies, and a physical exam.

The key to handling mental disorders in children is recognizing the problem and seeking appropriate treatment. Patients seen by a pediatric psychiatrist vary from those with common problems, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression and generalized anxiety disorder, to more complicated conditions such as autistic disorders. At CarolinaEast Pediatrics, we believe in family-centered care, because research shows that family involvement is integral to a child’s healing process. Our Pediatric Psychiatrist on staff is Dr. Colin Evans, who has extensive training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry to better assist your child and family in dealing with these medical conditions.
